FSCRA Race #5 Recap – Fun’s Back!

Race #5 is in the books, and I’m happy to report—fun has officially returned.

After the chaos of the last race, it took a lot of late nights and elbow grease to get the ol’ girl back to baseline. Big thanks to some generous friends who stepped in—by the time we hit the track, I felt a whole lot better than I did earlier in the week.

We showed up with a game plan and a couple of rookie crew members: my daughter Ava and her boyfriend Nick. They both got crash courses—literally—in tire data logging and Racecar Spotting 101, and they crushed it!

The car felt solid in open practice, which was a much-needed confidence boost. Made a few small tweaks for Practice #2—better. Tweaked again for qualifying—better still. Ended up P4 behind some tough competition: Jeff Jones back in the mix with the 17, Tommy Laxson in the always-consistent 24, and California’s Eddie Second in the lightning-fast 72. All things considered, I was pretty happy with it.

Heat Race: Started inside Row 3, managed to work my way to the front by Lap 3 and held off the charge for the win. The 72, 24, and 17 weren’t far behind, but it felt good to get that W.

Main Event – 30 Laps: Another small setup adjustment. Lined up outside of Row 3. Didn’t get the best jump at the start but tucked in behind the 24 and settled in. The four of us (72, 24, 17, and me) put on a little train ride through the first batch of lapped traffic.

Car felt strong and laps were flying by—until the 17 had to tap out with engine trouble. We caught more traffic, and the 72 slipped through clean. I tried to make a bold move—outside of the 24, inside of the 11, while the 24 was trying to lap the 00. Made a little contact, but we all got through and kept rolling. Spent the last 10 laps staring at the 24’s back bumper, looking for another opening that just never came. Ended up P3.

All in all—a solid night, and a fun one.

Big shoutout to Mike for making the trip up to spot for me after a long day at the farm. And thanks to Joe, Scott, and Chuck for always making time—weekday, weekend, or race day—to help me go faster.

FSCRA Race #4 | July 5th, 2025

At this point in my racing “career” (and yes, I’m using air quotes), I’ve narrowed Race Day goals down to three simple things:

 Be competitive

 Have fun

Bring the car home in one piece

Well… this past Saturday, I struck out on goal #2. Fun was not had. Zero stars. Would not recommend.

Now, full disclosure—the lack of fun was mostly my own doing. But still, it counts.

The car’s actually been pretty solid this season. We’re in that “fine-tuning” zone, just trying to shave off that last little bit to catch the fast guys. But then, Saturday happened.

Let’s rewind.

We roll out for practice, and I notice the clutch feels off. Weird, but I get it in gear and make it to the lineup. Clutch still feels wonky, so I test it again. Nope. Not good. That’s when Trevor and a few others spot a lovely puddle and a line of fluid following me like a sad parade float.

Sooo, out I hop. Trevor, Frank (shoutout to the #24 crew!), and I push the car back to our pit like it’s 1993 and we’re broke teenagers. I already knew the issue—my hydraulic throwout bearing has been slowly weeping its life away for months, despite me changing the seals twice. I was hoping it could hang in there for just one more weekend. Spoiler alert: it could not.

Trevor and I decide to do the only logical thing—pull the transmission at the track. If you’re wondering, yes, it’s exactly as fun as it sounds. We wrench, sweat, curse a little, miss practice, miss qualifying… but somehow, we’re ready just in time for the Heat.

Start at the back, work up to 2nd. Not bad for a guy with brake fluid on his face.

Main event time! Made some tweaks (Thanks Joe!) to get the car a bit more dialed in. First couple laps? Felt great. Then I go for a move on the #45, and we trade paint—his door meets my right front. Car says “nope,” and now everything feels off.

Still trying to make it work when I—how do I put this—misjudged the backstretch wall. Decided to give it a love tap. A very hard love tap. Car realllllly didn’t like that one either. At that point, new goal: finish the race without the car falling apart.

P2 finish, somehow. Loaded it on the trailer in one piece (technically).

Congrats to Tommy in the #24 for taking the win… again. It’s really getting old, man.

Big thanks to Trevor for spotting solo for the first time! Crushed it, even if the rest of the day tried to crush us.

Wouldn’t be racing without the support of my family, my great sponsors, and supporters like Joe, Chuck, BRW Beaudoin Racing Werkes.

FSCRA Race #2 Recap | May 24, 2025

P2 in qualifying

Heat race win

Main event? Came up just short, but we’re closing the gap. Car was fast, had a shot at the win, just ran out of laps after a couple mistakes and some wild moments (including a little off-road action ).

Big thanks to Gilbert for the spotter assist, Stephen for the help with Practice + Qualifying. Mike for spotting, Scott for the coaching, and Joe for the support after a long day in the strawberry field.

Huge thanks to the everyone supporting Neves Racing Team!

We’re getting faster — on to the next one!

Thank you again Photos By Stormy and Felicia for the great race day pics.
